Gardening Question of the Week: What Do You Think of Garden Shows?

A recent article in The New York Times, follows the Cleveland
Botanical Garden's switch from a Flower Show (the largest outdoor
garden show in North America), to the "RIPE! Food & Garden
Festival", in an effort to reach a wider audience. The garden's
executive director said "Food is an easier sell." The article's
author, Judith H. Dobrzynski, seemed to appreciate the cynicism of
this when she wrote that RIPE "...celebrates the trend of locally
grown food." Is it a trend?...Read Full Post
Giving Your Garden a Sense of Age and Substance

I love to tour old, established gardens. ThereÂ’s
nothing so evocative as trees obscured by clinging vines and the
scent of damp stones. It gets me thinking about how
IÂ’d use the garden, where my favorite place to sit
would be if IÂ’d lived there and what it would be like
to grow up in a place like that. ThereÂ’s a charm to an

create new growth, share their plants with family members and
friends, or even to sell excess stock to nurseries, garden centers
and flower [...]
July's Photo Challenge: Daylilies

JuneÂ’s Photo
Challenge, Unusual Containers, is just about to close and winners
will be featured in a couple of weeks. For July, weÂ’re
turning to the #1 flower for gardeners, new and experienced,
Daylilies. Four different readers suggested daylilies, when we were
collecting suggestions for novice gardeners, and I
donÂ’t think IÂ’ve seen a garden without at
least one. There are thousands to choose from, so get out your
camera. Photos can showcase a beautiful flower, an interesting
combination or even a problem your daylilies are experiencing.
Since daylilies only bloom for 1 day, the plants are constantly
changing. Entries should be posted in this tread on the Foru...
