As the summer progresses and lots of us are getting really bored
with watering - to say nothing of the environmental implications of
using all that water. While it's tempting to add water retaining
crystals to your soil, you might want to think twice before you do.
There is tons of advice out there that says that water retaining
crystals are not only effective, that they are "green" too.
However, there is research that says that polyacrylamide - what
most crystals are made of - become carcinogenic as they break down.
Not only that, some studies have shown that water crystals, are
minimally effective. Here's more info....Do Water Retaining

Container Gardening Fake Out
The other night, I was thrilled to be woken up by the sound of
rain. I went back to sleep certain that I would get the day off

feel if the soil is cool and moist. For more on watering: How to

How Should You Water Your Organic Garden?
Here is an interesting fact that should be taken notice of:
vegetables that are picked from plants that are well-watered last
much longer than others. Research shows that 90% of a plant's
structure is made up of water, which makes the previous fact even
easier to believe, and which makes watering the most vital part of
gardening. The other essentials, such as sunlight, fertilizer and
carbon dioxide help speed up the process of photosynthesis.
